Sanilac Commissioners give raise to Administrator

(SANDUSKY) – It’s the season of giving and the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners were in the spirit, approving a raise for their top employee during their meeting Tuesday.

Tara Griffith, the County’s Administrator/Controller, received what amounted to a 3.875 % raise including a cost of living allowance of 1.75%.

Griffith, who is completing her second year after taking over for retired Administrator Kathy Dorman, made $87,700 on 2019 and is scheduled to see that increase to just over $91,000 for 2020.

With a benefit package of just over $20,000 dollars, Griffith will have a salary of nearly $112,000 dollars, plus other perks of 30 paid vacation days, 12 paid sick days, two paid personal days and a $10,000 life insurance policy.

In other Commissioners news, the Board heard from member Joe O’Mara who continued to press the issues he brought up earlier this year, saying he had pulled two random invoices totaling $100,000.

O’Mara said he found no evidence or proof that work was done, or bid sought on the two projects, just that the work was given to a contractor.

The commissioner, who has been critical of how Drain Commissioner Greg Alexander has run his department, said he feels there needs to be more internal control and that not doing things like getting more bids for work is totally unacceptable.
