Near collision leads to shooting

(Speaker Township) – Sanilac County Sheriff Investigators are looking for more information from a shooting incident in southern Sanilac County Thanksgiving evening.

According to the Sheriff Department, the shooting occurred in Speaker Township, at the intersection of M-19 and Galbraith Line just before 11 p.m.

Central Dispatch received a call about two motorists who avoided a reported near head-on collision and pulled into a car pool lot at the intersection.

An altercation was heard on the 911 call before it was disconnected. A second call was made a short time later, stating there was an injured make subject lying in the parking lot.

Deputies, with assistance from area police departments, found a 30-year old male was a victim of a gunshot wound. He was transported by helicopter to St. Mary’s of Saginaw for treatment of his injuries.

According to investigators, all parties involved in the incident have been identified but police are refusing to release further information.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police-Caro Post, Brown City Police Department, Marlette Police Department, Speaker Township Fire Department and Tri-Hospital EMS.
