Three-vehicle crash claims life of two Lexington people

The following is a press release from the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, regarding a three-vehicle crash in Lexington Township Monday afternoon.

 

(LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP) – On Monday, September 30, 2019 at approximately 3:59 P.M. Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call regarding a three (3) vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of E. Peck Rd. and Babcock Rd. in Lexington
Township.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2016 Ford Transit Work Van operated by a 46-year-old male
from Lynn Township was traveling eastbound on Peck Rd when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2018 Jeep
Compass that was stopped on E. Peck Rd, facing east at Babcock Rd, attempting to make a left turn (north).

After being struck in the rear the Jeep Compass entered the westbound lane of Peck Rd. where it was struck by
a westbound 2008 Hummer H3 being operated by a 17-year-old male from Croswell.

The 2018 Jeep Compass was being driven by a 72-year-old male from Lexington and had a 70-year-old female passenger also from
Lexington. The 72-year-old male was ejected from his vehicle during the crash. The 72-year-old male and 70-year-old female died as a result of their injuries.

The other drivers involved were checked for possible injuries but not transported to the hospital. All drivers were believed to be wearing their seatbelts and airbags deployed in each of the vehicles.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this accident.

The report will be forwarded to the Sanilac County Prosecutors Office upon completion of the investigation.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team was assisted by the Lexington Police Department, Croswell Police Department, Croswell EMS and Lexington Fire Department.

Names are being withheld at this time as this is an on-going investigation.
