Photos of Forester gazebo sought; storm clean-up continues

(SANILAC COUNTY) -In the aftermath of a storm that ripped through Forester Park in eastern Sanilac County, efforts are underway to try and replicate a building that was destroyed in a thunderstorm earlier this month.

Roger Ballard, Chairman of the county’s park and Recreation Committee, said officials are seeking the public’s help in locating photographs of the inside of the gazebo that was thrown into lake Huron in the storm.

Ballard is asking for anyone who may have a photograph, especially of the interior to contact the park manager at Forester or a county official.

The gazebo is believed to have been built in the 1930’s, according to Ballard. He said the park sustained heavy damage, including several mature trees that were leveled in the storm, along with two camping cabins that also  sustained minor damage.

Ballard said Sanilac County has already spent over $8,000 in clean-up costs with additional clean-up still needed.

A total dollar amount of damage is not expected for several weeks, until after insurance adjusters have an opportunity to review the claim.
