Sanilac Commissioners select audit firm

(SANDUSKY) – The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners hired a new auditing firm during their meeting earlier this week. Although they were not the lowest bid, Yeo & Yeo was selected from a list of seven firms and will handle the County’s auditing needs.

The new firm was $6,600 dollars higher than the lowest bid, but Administrator/Controller Tara Griffith told they board a finance committee felt a new set of eyes on the County’s financial status would be a good thing.

Yeo & Yeo’s five year bid totaled $210,000 dollars, compared to the low bid of $172,700 dollars.

In the Department of Public Works meeting, held after the Commissioner’s meeting, tensions were high and tempers flared as Worth Township board members and USDA officials sparred with board members over the $42 million dollar sewer project.

While work has been substantially completed and is ready for residents to begin the process for hooking to the new system, Worth officials continue to delay the process, citing concerns with how work was performed or not done as they thought it would be.

Board Chairman Greg Alexander said there is a sense of urgency to get customers connected to the sytem, before the State Attorney General Dana Nessel becomes involved in the matter.

The Worth Township board refused to pay monthly billing requests until they have questions answered.

However, a motion was passed that the township is now facing an August 29th deadline to begin issuing permits to connect to the system.
