Additional suspects indicted in drug shootout

(GREENLEAT TOWNSHIP) – A year ago, after a brutal gun battle attack in northwest Sanilac County in the fall of 2017, Preston Jack pleaded guilty in Sanilac County Circuit Court to multiple charges including armed robbery causing serious injury, assault with intent to rob while armed causing serious injury and, first-degree home invasion and felony firearms.

Jack, the lone survivor of the alleged attack, was one of four men accused of staging a robbery at a marijuana growing operation in the 4300 block of Holbrook Road in Greenleaf Township in November of 2017.  Two other suspects were shot and killed at the home of the attempted robbery while a third suspect committed suicide at the Sanilac County jail.

Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki said investigators believe there are more than the four original conspirators, with three additional men being recently indicted, and more expected. Three Flint men;  Paul “Pauli D” Drinkwine; Justin “Just” Cooper and John “Jizzle” Williams, were named in an indictment alleging conspiracy to rob a marijuana grow operation and distribute drugs after the theft.

Sanilac County Investigators continue to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to target violent criminals who use guns to achieve their selfish ends,” Schneider said in the statement.

Police alleged Jack and three other men went to a home in the 4300 block of Holbrook Road in Greenleaf Township November 19th 2017, planning to rob the homeowner of marijuana and cash.

However the homeowner and another man were inside when the suspects broke in and had access to loaded weapons. Gunfire was exchanged during a shootout, leaving the homeowner with a gunshot wound to the leg and two suspects dead. Quantize Bruce, 20, and Keith Saunders, 26, both of Flint, were killed in the attack.

Stephen Shimmel was arrested, along with Xavier, and later found dead in his cell in the Sanilac County jail.

Additional suspects are being investigated and future arrests are expected by authorities.
