Two dirt bike crashes claim life of teenager; injures another rider

(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – A 15-year old Illinois boy was killed Sunday while racing his dirt bike.

According to the Tuscola County Sheriff Department, deputies heard radio traffic from MMR ambulance service to Tuscola County Central Dispatch regarding assisting Baja Acres with CPR.

Deputies learned CPR was being performed on a 15-year old dirt bike rider who was involved in a crash during a sanctioned race.

Authorities said the victim somehow went down and became separated from his dirt bike and riders behind him could not avoid striking the rider.

CPR was performed by medical staff on scene and Lifenet helicopter was dispatched to the scene, however attempts to save the rider were unsuccessful.

The teen was from Cambridge, Illinois and had family members present at the track.

 

LUCKY THUMB ACCIDENT

In a separate accident, a dirt bike rider taking part in practice runs at the Lucky Thumb Motorcycle Track sustained serious injuries following an accident this past weekend.

According to officials, Dylan Shaw had what track officials called a hard fall in practice Sunday and was airlifted from the track to a Flint area hospital.

It was determined Shaw had sustained serious internal injuries and was undergoing treatment.

It was the second serious dirt bike injury accident this past weekend, with the other being in Tuscola County where a 15-year old rider died from injuries sustained in a fall.
