Engine goes through windshield in Genesee County

(FLINT TOWNSHIP)  – A flatbed semi-truck traveling south on I-75 Friday morning lost part of it’s load of scrap vehicles, closing a busy section of the highway in Flint Township just before noon.

According to MSP Lt. Jim Lang, the scrap vehicles were stacked on a flatbed trailer one on top of another. As the semi-truck traveled under the Maple Rd. overpass, one of the scrap vehicles struck an overpass.

After impacting the overpass, an engine from a scrap vehicle ejected and hit the passenger side windshield of a pick-up truck traveling behind the semi-truck, striking an 18-year old passenger.

The passenger was critically injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The pick-up truck was being driven by a 50-year-old Flint resident who was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
