Price tag more than doubles for Sandusky sidewalk project

Sandusky City Manager Dave Faber said the long discussed non-motorized walkway on the west side of Sandusky has received the green light. The project, expected to cost nearly $2 million dollars, is largely state funded, with the city’s share being $154,000. Faber is attending a pre-construction meeting today, along with MDOT officials and others and expects work to begin sometime next year. The pathway will begin at the intersection of W. Sanilac Ave and Maple Valley Street and go west to Walmart. Faber, who received a letter of comittment for the project from the State, said a large share of the cost of the project is due to MDOT requirements. The original cost was tabbed at $750,000 and has now ballooned to $1.6 million dollars.
