Bauman to use insanity defense

A hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon in the case of a Kimball Township man charged with allegedly killing an off-duty police officer and trying to kill his estranged wife has been cancelled. According to court recordds, Joshua Bowman’s lawyer intends to use a defense of insanity. The St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office said the hearing was cancelled because they are not disputing the request for a psychiatric examination to determine criminal responsibility and competency. Bauman is facing multiple charges including first-degree premeditated murder, after allegedly shooting three people in August. He remains in the St. Clair County jail without bond.
