Sherman Township firemen have been kept busy battling grain dryer fires in the past week, responding to their third such incident in the past week on Thursday morning. Firemen responded to the Coop Elevator in Ruth around 11 a.m. when employees smelled smoke and found burning soybeans. After shutting down the drying systems, employees dumped the smoldering crop on the ground, halting growers from unloading trailers for a short time. Sigel Township fire department assisted Sherman Township and according to elevator staff, there was minimal damage. Firemen remained on scene for around two hours with no injuries reported.
