(SANILAC COUNTY) – A Marion Township home was destroyed by flames Tuesday afternoon, despite the efforts of firemen from two fire departments. Deckerville Fire Chief Tracy Hoff said his department received the call around 2:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, Hoff said the home in the 3600 block of E. Downington Road, had flames coming through the roof. He said no one was living in the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Firemen from Deckerville and Carsonville remained on scene for around two and a half hours, using 6,500 gallons of water. Cause of the fire is unknown.

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – Police have released further information on the fatal accident south of Yale last week. On August 30th at about 3:30 p.m., a 73-year old Sandusky man was driving his pickup southbound on M-19 in Emmett Township, just south of Old Emmett Road. At the same time, 69-year old Philip Sevin of Macomb Township was riding his bicycle, also southbound on M-19. Authorities said the pickup struck the bike, causing fatal injuries to Sevin, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. No arrests were made at the scene of the crash.

(SANDUSKY) – It was a record-breaking quick meeting Tuesday evening for Sandusky city council members. In a meeting that lasted only a few minutes, council heard an update from City Manager Dave Faber on sewer repairs throughout the city. Faber said two sewer repair projects, on North Elk and Morse Streets, are part of five jobs approved by council earlier this year. Funding from a SAW grant covers the costs of the repairs, according to Faber.

(SANDUSKY) – The Sanilac County Board of Canvassers completed their recount of District 5 for County Commissioner Tuesday afternoon. Incumbent Paul Muxlow had filed for the recount, after losing the Primary in August by six votes. County Clerk Denise McGuire said the audit of the new voting equipment went very well and produced one slight change, but the same outcome. Despite one more vote tallied for Muxlow, Joel Wyatt still wins the election by a count of 662 to 657.

(SANDUSKY) – The Sanilac County Road Commission heard a request from a Worth Township resident who wanted to make drainage improvements to a road near his property. However, after hearing from Engineer/Manager Robb Falls, the board denied the request Wednesday morning. Byron Wilson had proposed new drain tubes and grading work along property near the intersection of Croswell Road and Gardner Line, at his cost. County officials had legal concerns along with future maintenance issues. Although Wilson proposed a deed restriction on the property for future owners, Commissioner Randy Horst felt the restriction could not be placed on the Right-of-Way, where the work was proposed.

(YALE) – Yale city council members are considering a purchase of a used 95-foot ladder truck for their fire department. Council members and fire department personnel have inspected the apparatus and discussed costs of the truck from Fort Gratiot fire department. At a recent meeting, council approved spending up to $50,000 dollars for the 1989 truck and authorized City Manager John Osborn and fire personnel to discuss the matter further with Fort Gratiot officials.

(CARO) – The seven week Michigan State Police Caro Post Citizens’ Academy begins October 2nd and and runs through November 20th. The lecture-based academy will give citizens the opportunity to become familiar with the mission and operation of the MSP and get to know personnel at the Caro Post. The Academy will meet at the Tuscola Technology Center at 1401 Cleaver Road in Caro on Monday evenings from 6:00 P.M to 8:30 P.M. A graduation ceremony will be held on November 20th.
