Three Fires Keep Marlette Fire Department Busy

The Marlette fire department has been busy in the past week, responding to a pair of structure fires in town and providing mutual aid in a third blaze. According to Chief Dan Korte, firemen responded to a trailer home on Erving Street around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning and found the home fully engulfed. Cause of the fire is under investigation. The family of five was not at home at the time of the four-alarm fire and were assisted by the American Red Cross. Korte said the home and an attached garage were a total loss. Marlette was assisted by Brown City, Burlington and Lamotte Township fire departments.

Last week, Marlette fire was called to a structure fire involving a tri-level home near Marsh Funeral Home around 7pm Wednesday evening. Chief Korte said around 20,000 gallons of water were used to douse the flames and the home sustained extensive damage. He estimated the loss to be around $150,000 and said the home was insured. The American Red Cross was called to assist the family. Marlette was assisted by Lamotte and Burlington Township fire departments. Cause of the blaze is under investigation.
