Bags to be Searched at Port Huron Council Meetings

In an effort to increase security, attendees to Port Huron City Council meetings will now be asked to have their backpacks, bags and purses searched before entering the meeting room. Officials said the new policy is for safety reasons and began this week when police began searching bags before Monday night’s council meeting. Officials said the new policy wasn’t in response to a particular incident and is consistent with other efforts the city has made to enhance security.
