Sandusky Council Gives City Manager and Police Chief Contract Extensions

Contract extensions were approve for Sandusky’s City Manager and Police Cheif Monday night after council gave both employees an additional two years on their current contracts. City Manager Dave Faber’s current contract was set to expire in 2021, but was extended to 2023, while Bret Lester’s agreement was to expire in 2020 and will now remain in effect until 2022. Council members said they were pleased with the work of both employees and felt the recommendation of two-year extensions were reasonable.

In other council news, Sandusky officials have submitted paperwork to be considered for state honors in the Rising Tide program. City Manager Faber said an application was mailed to the state, explaining how the program has helped the city wth self-promotion and obtaining grants for the downtown area. Faber said it is possible city officials will be asked to give a presentation at a State program, explaining the benefits Rising Tide has brought to Sandusky.

Council also agreed to increase the number of parking spaces at Doerr Field, which means the old Fieldhouse near the intersection of Speaker and Austin Streets will be coming down. City officials said by removing the outdated building, an additional 38 spaces till be added to the park. Consideration may be given to constructing a different building in the future, if needed.
