Road Commission crews kept busy on roads

Sanilac County road crews have been busy this month, even prior to the snowstorm that hit the area this week. Assistant Engineer Dale Stolicker said crews were called out on five separate occasions to plow snow or spread salt.

Prior to the storm on the 13th, road crews had dumped a total of nearly 500 tons of salt on county roads, including 227 tons on state highways.

Stolicker is also overseeing the court-ordered sewer project in Worth Township for the county and said contractors have begun installing sewer lines and other work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.

In other road commission news, the Board of Commissioners were told the county has received nearly two million dollars more this year over 2016, for the state’s transportation reimbursement.

The increase is a result of the approved tax increase on fuel. For December, Sanilac County received $595,000, compared to $387,000 a year ago.

To date, the county has received in excess of $7.4 million dollars in reimbursement funding.
