(SANILAC COUNTY) – Six people have applied for the vacant District 3 position on the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners. Interviews will be held at the Commissioners meeting Tuesday and the selected candidate will take the Oath of Office and be seated at the meeting. Administrator/Controller Kathy Dorman said the Board needed to have a person in place by the 19th to avoid having to hold a special election. Those applying are: Jeff Dawson, John Groustra, William Sarkella, Joe O’Mara, Nicholyn Brnadneburg and Terry Caryl.

(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – The Tuscola County Community Foundation has awarded over $70,000 in grant funds this holiday season, including $4,400 to the Tuscola County sheriff department for a new computer and $12,000 to Almer Township for playground upgrades. $1,800 dollar grants have been awarded to the Tuscola County Fair and the Caro District library and $7,500 to Caro Community schools for their Fine Arts program. To date, over $4 million dollars from the Foundation has been awarded to various organizations.

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – Volunteers from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division showed their Christmas spirit at the Yale Christmas Parade last week, winning the Grand Marshall Award. Members of the AC Pawsitive Change group donated their time to enter the float in the parade in Yale December 9th. Sheriff Tim Donnellon said he was pleased to see the volunteers give their time to promote the adoption center. The volunteers from Pawsitive change are assisting in community events and helping to find either adoptive or rescue placement for the facility’s animals.

(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – Tuscola County sheriff department officials are warning residents of an incident that took place in Frankenmuth Wednesday evening. Officers took a report of a larceny from an auto in the 400 block of List St Industrial Park. Video shows the suspect vehicle entering the parking lot around 6:30 p.m. The suspect checked several vehicles and was able to gain entry to one vehicle by breaking a window. The suspect vehicle is an older style two tone, Jeep Cherokee. Possibly maroon on top with grey lower section. (NORTHERN MICHIGAN) – An Upper Peninsula basketball team that had won 84 consecutive games is starting over from scratch. The team from Powers North Central lost last week for the first time since 2014, falling to Rapid River. Powers won three Class D championships during the 84-game winning streak, the longest in state history. They also won a pair of 8-Man football state championships.
