Cros-Lex school board considers staffing needs

(Croswell-Lexington) – Faced with budget constraints, like many other districts, the Cros-Lex school board is wrestling with the pros and cons of hiring a full-time curriculum director.

The district has been getting by since February utilizing an elementary principal who has also handled the curriculum duties for a $10,000 stipend.

At their July meeting, newly hired Superintendent Dan Gilbertson agreed with some board members that the district should consider retaining the staff member this coming school year, as opposed to hiring a full-time position at a cost of $120,000.

Cros-Lex is experiencing a loss of students which in turn means less funding and a tighter budget.

Gilbertson warned of serious cuts next year, if the financial situation remains the same.
