Baseball and Softball teams prepare for district tournaments

Despite the fact that Mother Nature hasn’t cooperated the way they wanted, the baseball and softball seasons are in the final weeks of the season with the onset of district tournaments throughout the area stating next week.

In Division 4 baseball action at Deckerville, the host Eagles have managed to turn things around after a 14-15 season a year ago, going undefeated in NCTL play so far this season.

After completing their regular season this week, Deckerville will take on GTC-East foe Ubly in a District semi-final set for next Friday at 10 a.m. In the other semi-final, GTC-East member Harbor Beach takes on Carsonville-Port Sanilac. The winners will meet in the title game at 2 p.m.

In another Division 4 district, being played at Kingston, the host Cardinals will take on the Peck Pirates in the second game of a district doubleheader next Friday at 3 p.m.. In the opener, Akron-Fairgrove and Mayville square off at 1 p.m. The championship game is set for 5 p.m.

The winner of the Sandusky vs Marlette baseball game will be competing in the Division 3 district tournament at Bad Axe, after playing a qualifier on the Redskins home field Tuesday May 30th. The Redskins are in a district that is winnable, if they can play solid baseball.

The winner of the Redskins and Red Raiders will advance to the semi-finals June 3rd, taking on Laker in a 10 a.m. contest. In the other half of the bracket, Bad Axe and Cass City collide in a first round battle with the winner moving on to face Brown City in the second half of the semi-finals June 3rd, beginning at 12 noon. The championship game will be played at 2 p.m.

 

In Division 4 softball tournament action in Deckerville, it’s a mix of the GTC-East and the NCTL as the post season gets underway. In the opener next  Friday, Carsonville-Port Sanilac tangles with GTC-East opponent Harbor Beach in a 10 a.m. contest. In the second semi-final, the host Lady Eagles (5-1 in NCTL play) will collide with Ubly at noon with the winners of both games facing off in the title game at 2 p.m.

Over at Kingston, it’s a smaller field with just one semi-final game as the host Lady Cardinals battle NCTL rival Peck at 1 p.m. next Friday. The winner will advance to play a strong Mayville squad in the championship game at 3 p.m.

In Division 3 action at Bad Axe, GTC-East rivals Marlette and Sandusky go head to head Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Sandusky with the winner advancing against Laker (12 noon) on Saturday in the second game of two semi-final games.

In the first semi-final, Brown City will take on the winner of GTC-West foes Cass City and Bad Axe in a 10 a.m. contest. The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. The winner will advance to regional action at Lakeville.

The Lady Redskins have sailed through the GTC-East portion of their season with a perfect 10-0 mark and won a league championship. Many of the girls on the team are also members of the undefeated Sandusky girls basketball team and have enjoyed good success this school year.
