(Marlette) – After action taken by the Marlette school board, Marlette educators are being offered a buyout program in an effort to save the district money.
According to school officials, at lest 20 teachers may qualify for the early out with those taking advantage of the offer receiving $15,000. At least five teachers must take part in the offer or it would be withdrawn.
Staff must be of retirement age or at Step 17 of the pay scale to qualify. There was no word on when the cut-off date was for the teachers to sign up for the offer. The vote came on a 3-2 split decision with two board members absent.
