Sandusky school board to hear from three finalists

Sandusky school board members interview a Superintendent candidate

The Sandusky school board has narrowed it’s list of Superintendent candidates down to three and will be conducting second round interviews later this week. School Board President Dr. Robert Hassler said he was pleased with the work of the board and admitted it was a tough decision to get down to the three finalists.

“There were six very good candidates,” Dr. Hassler said. “Any of them would be good for our district. But, after a lot of back and forth talking among board members, we came up with the three we felt would best suit us. All three are good candidates. They did a good job with their first interviews and we want to hear more from them, and learn more about them and how they would fit in at Sandusky.”

The three finalists are Yale High School Principal Paul Flynn, Whittemore-Prescott Superintendent Joe Perrea and Hillman High School Principal Levi (Jeff) Terpenning. The men will interview in the order listed, beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon with the second candidate beginning at 6 p.m. and the third at 7 p.m.

The school board wants to encourage the public to attend the interviews and Dr. Hassler said there is time for public comment when the board wants to hear from faculty and the community.

Following the interviews, the board has several options including naming their next superintendent or narrowing the field to two candidates and doing site visits. A decision on their top choice is expected later this month.
