Sandusky Superintendent Search Moves to Second Interviews

The Sandusky Board of Education interviewed six candidates for their next superintendent, replacing retiring Superintendent Michael Carmean who will conclude his seven year stay at Sandusky at the end of the school year.

All of the candidates were asked the same questions over the two days of interviews on a range of topics that were identified by the board in creating their profile of their next superintendent. Community members were able to submit questions and feedback forms to the board on their feelings about the candidates.

After three more hours of interviews Tuesday night, the board deliberated for more than two hours about each candidates’ strengths and how they compared to the candidate profile they had created.

Following much discussion and nearly six hours later, the board came to consensus to invite three candidates back for second interviews. Those candidates and their schedule interview are:

May 4th  5:00 PM – 5:50 PM            Flynn, Paul                 Yale Public Schools High School Principal
May 4th  6:00 PM – 6:50 PM            Perrera, Joseph            Whittemore-Prescott Schools Superintendent

May 4th 7:00 PM – 7:50 PM            Terpenning, Levi (Jeff)            Hillsdale Community Schools High School Principal

The board will interview each candidate in the board meeting room at Sandusky High School. The board invites all community members to observe the interviews. The public again will be able to give feedback to the board and also to ask questions via question forms to the board.

“The board had six outstanding candidates and they worked diligently to identify the top three for second interviews. They have done a great job so far.’ According to Scott Morrell, Consultant-Michigan Association of School Boards Executive Search Services, who is working with the board through the entire process.

At the completion of the second round interviews, the board will discuss the candidates, whether a site visit is required and how they would like to proceed. The board may come to a decision this evening or carry over to the May 15th board meeting. The Finalist will be approved pending successful contact negations and is scheduled to start on July 1, 2017.
