DTF to host annual track meet

The Sanilac County Drug Task Force is proud to continue sponsorship of what will be the 26th Annual Junior High Invitational Track Meet on Thursday, May 4st, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the Brown City School High School Track& Field. All Sanilac County Schools will again participate in both the boys’ and girls’ division track events. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program or acronym also being used is (Define / Assess / Respond / Evaluate) is in its 24th consecutive year of presentation in all seven Sanilac County School Districts. The goal of the D.A.R.E. program is to prevent substance abuse and violence (Bullying) among children. Emphasis is placed upon assisting students in recognizing and resisting the pressures that influence them to experiment with drugs, alcohol, gangs, and abuse of bullying by others.

The D.A.R.E. “Core’ program has been ongoing since 1990 and has moved to evolve with the changes and challenges that face our children. Sanilac County is fortunate to have its citizen’s support for the Drug Task Force Millage that directs full D.A.R.E. funding towards our children in our school systems, not only with the D.A.R.E. program, but also providing important financial funding for school counseling services for those youths in need.

It is the sincere hope of the Drug Task Force Board, that the D.A.R.E Track meet will   reinforce and support the message of a “DRUG FREE” environment for our youth in a positive and enjoyable day. A good day for them is a great day for all of us.
