Marlette proved to be the best team in the Thumb Area during the regular season. The Red Raiders ran through the Greater Thumb East undefeated, defeating the likes of Greater Thumb West champion Unionville-Sebewaing Area and Millington along the way. Marlette was a unanimous selection for All-Thumb Team of the Year and put a pair of players on the first team.

As is often the case, voting for Player of the Year by the Thumb Sportswriters Association panel was a challenge, to say the least. A number of players were in contention for the honor, but Kyle Stockmeyer of Reese claimed the award. The 6-3 junior forward averaged 16.0 points per and six rebounds.

Joining Stockmeyer on the first team are Marlette teammates and brothers Barret and Bryce George, Millington’s Brandon Reed, Brown City’s Calvin Cook and USA’s Michael Kemp. Marlette collected two more awards, as Hunter Kelly earned Defensive Player of the Year and Charles McClatchie was Sixth Player winner.

USA’s Mark Gainforth was named Coach of the Year for a record third time.
Barret George, a 6-5 senior guard/forward led Marlette in scoring at 12 per game. He hauled in just under five boards per game and was the All-Thumb Sixth Player last season.

Bryce George, a 6-6 forward, is the first freshman to ever make the All-Thumb First Team. He earned his spot by averaging just under 12 points per game and nearly eight rebounds per contest. Cook, a 6-2 junior guard, led the Greater Thumb Conference in scoring woith almost 17 points per game and added seven rebounds per game.

Reed, a 6-0 senior guard, continued the long line of Millington players on the All-Thumb Team, averaging 18 points a game. Kemp, a 6-4 senior forward, averaged 9 points per game.
The All-Thumb Second Team consists of Bad Axe’s Martin Messing, Caro’s Steve Strachan, Marlette’s Isaac Dale, North Huron’s Matt Koth, Peck’s Dylan Dankenbring and USA’s Isaiah Williamson.

Making honorable mention were: Brown City’s Andrew Geiger, Carsonville-Port Sanilac’s Tony Nugent, Cass City’s Logan Schenk, Caro teammates Kyle Fetting and Tony Fox, Deckerville’s Kenton Bowerman, Harbor Beach’s Brady Kirsch, Kingston’s Grant Koehler, Millington’s Cameron Henderson, North Branch’s Riley Bugg, Owendale-Gagetown’s David Binder, Reese’s Jake Galsterer, Ubly’s Matt Maikrzek and USA teammates Hunter Bohn and Harrison Cramer.
