Sandusky council approves tavern request; Firebird seeks State OK

After tabling the issue at their last meeting, Sandusky city council gave their approval of a request by the Firebird Theater to obtain a Tavern License from the State of Michigan. Theater owners had met with city officials earlier and both sides agreed to apply for only a Tavern License, which allows serving beer and wine, if the request is granted. In other council news, the process for applying for a $2 million dollar ICE grant took another step when council passed a motion to be a Redevelopment Ready Community. The action is required to be eligible for the grant. If approved, the grant will allow the city to upgrade their infrastructure with a major renovations project. Under state guidelines, the work would have to be completed by 2019.
