New program for Sanilac County Child Abuse Prevention

The Sanilac County Child Abuse Prevention Council has started a new Prevention Program in the schools around the county. The new program, KIDZ Have Rights is a Body Safety Education Program that teaches children about sexual abuse in a safe and nurturing environment. Age-appropriate presentations are designed for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade. The KIDZ Have Rights Educator, Mrs. Amy Dumaw has started presenting in Kindergarten classrooms and providing the education to the students and staff in our communities.

She has been trained by the creators of the KIDZ Have Rights Program in Kent County Michigan. The Sanilac County Child Abuse Prevention Council’s goal was to have this program in at least two of the county schools by the end of the 2017 school year. We have already exceeded this goal as Mrs. Dumaw has presented in Marlette, Deckerville, Sandusky and Croswell-Lexington School Districts.

The Prevention Program is looking forward to continuing the KIDZ Have Rights Program and continued education of the children and staff in our area. If you are interested in additional information regarding the KIDZ Have Rights Program or scheduling this education program, please contact the Prevention Program at 810-648-4098 Ext. 144.
