Champions crowned at Harry Moore tournament

The Harry Moore Classic holiday tournament wrapped up yesterday with champions being crowned in both girls and boys play. For the girls, Kingston turned back Brown City 36-28 to win the title while North Branch nipped Capac 26-25 in the consolation finals. For Brown City, Kendall Muxlow led the way with 11 points and Becki Krause added nine.

On the boys side, in games broadcast on 97.7 WTGV, in the consolation finals, Kingston used a big fourth quarter to get by Brown City 45-38. In the title game, North Branch used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Capac 65-49. The Cardinals went 10 of 14 from the line in the fourth quarter against Brown City to lift them to the win. Nathan Cloyd had 13 points for Kington while Bo Mickelson, Evan Neff and Grant Koehler all added 7 . Calvin Cook led Brown City ( 3-3 ) with 21 points. North Branch had four players in double figures, led by Chance Calvert’s 15 points. Riley Bugg added 13, Adam Barrows had 11 and Kaleb Bickel chipped in with 10. Capac was led by Andrew Sams and Jimmy Schroeder, each with 15 points.

In other boys games played, Marlette gave a strong showing at the Imlay City Basketball Showcase, rolling past Burton Bentley 79-40. Four players scored in double figures for the Red Raiders, led by Barrett George with 17 points and six rebounds. Bryce George and Ethan McKenney scored 15 points each and Charles McClatchie tossed in 12. Marlette used a huge 36-13 third quarter advantage to put the game away.

Elsewhere, Armada won the New Haven tournament with a 44-33 decision over Sterling Heights Parkway Christian, St. Clair knocked off Chippewa Valley 58-57 and Oxford beat Richmond 63-59.
Area boys and girls teams will return to their regular schedule beginning next Tuesday. In boys games, Millington is at Marlette, Imlay City is at Cros-Lex, Algonac travels to Capac, Richmond takes on Armada and Mayville is at Genesee. On the girls court, Sandusky collides with Richmond, Cass City is at Caro, Bay City All-Saints visits Peck, Bad Axe is at Imlay City, Deckerville is at Harbor Beach, Elkton-Pigeon is at North Huron and Utica Ford is at Port Huron High.
