1.5 million project planned for Deckerville Road

It was the final meeting of the year for the Sanilac County Road Commission this morning and while most of their business has been taken care of, commissioners were updated on a few projects still to be completed. Engineer Robb Falls told the board paperwork is being completed for the $1.5 million Deckerville Road Federal Aid project scheduled for next spring. An eight mile stretch of Deckerville Road, from Decker to Sheldon Roads will be resurfaced and paved, making Deckerville Road a Class A road from Deckerville to M-53.

In other road commission news, the board met in executive session to discuss hourly rates for staff. Without being able to give details, Falls said work is being done on a Letter of Understanding with one of the labor groups in order to be more competitive with neighboring counties and private sector companies.

With the start of the new year, Falls is also hoping to implement an exercise program for employees to help them feel better and be more physically fit. He said the program could also be a help with health insurance benefit rates.
