Recount for Deckerville Village Clerk

Now that the statewide Presidential recount is over, Sanilac County election workers are turning their attention to the Village of Deckerville. County Clerk Denise McGuire said there is a recount scheduled for the Village on Wednesday at 9 a.m. to recount the results for the race of Village Clerk. Monica Kunze, who lost the election in August by 1 vote to Carol Dempsey, paid the filing fee and requested the ballots be counted again.

McGuire said she had received approval from the state to conduct the recount after workers were finished with the Presidential recount on Sunday. However, with the recount being stopped, the date was moved to Wednesday. The county clerk estimates the cost of the recount to be less than $400, which will be paid by the Village of Deckerville.

McGuire expects to have the results of the recount by mid-morning Wednesday. One of the two candidates will replace Audrey Stolicker who resigned after 42 years of service to Deckerville.
