Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin was involved in a fatal accident Thursday

(UPDATE 12-9-16) – Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin is on the mend, recovering from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident Thursday near Davison. According to a press release from the Lapeer County Sheriff Department, Kalanquin, the longest serving Sheriff in the state with 36 years to his credit, underwent multiple successful surgeries to repair internal injuries. A 27-year old Lapeer man was pronounced deceased in the accident, after his mini-van crossed the center line and struck a fully marked patrol car head-on. Weather conditions nor alcohol are not considered to be factors in the crash.

Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin was involved in a deadly crash Thursday morning while traveling in Genesee County. According to media reports, Kalanquin was on his way to a meeting in a marked patrol car around 9 a.m. near Davison when he collided with a mini-van head-on. The driver of the van, who police say crossed over the center line, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Kalanquin’s condition is unknown, after he was transported to a Flint area hospital. There was extensive damage reported to both vehicles. Davison Township police and Michigan State Police are investigating the accident.
