For the sixth consecutive year, the Huron County Sheriff department is making Christmas a little brighter those who have been effected by tragedy or loss, with their annual donation to the Toys for Tots program. Sheriff Kelly Hanson said deputies will be making the special delivery next Saturday of donations that have flooded in from throughout the area.
This year marks the 3rd year of distributing $100 bills and gift cards to individuals or families who have experienced some type of tragedy or setback during this past year. Last year nearly 300 children received gifts and another $7,000 in cash or gift cards were handed out, nearly $2,000 more than the year before. The money for that project comes from anonymous citizens who have entrusted the department to see that their money and gifts are given to deserving families.
