The NCTL is expanding to 16 teams

Major changes are taking place for schools in the NCTL, especially in football. After Tuesday’s NCTL athletic directors meeting, three leagues dissolved and will make the new NCTL a 16-team conference. The new lineup will kick-off next season.

For the first year, the new NCTL will feature a Stars and Stripes divisions based on enrollment. Local teams in the Stars division include Deckerville, Kingston, Dryden and Mayville along with Burton Madison, Flint International, Lawrence and Morrice.

The Stripes division features Peck, Carsonville-Port Sanilac, North Huron, Owen-Gage, Caseville, Bay City All Saints, Akron-Farirgrove and New Haven Merritt.

The schedule will see teams play seven league games and two crossovers. Teams will have the option to opt out of their crossover in order to seek non-conference opponents. For all sports other than football, the NCTL will feature 12 teams, again broken into Stars and Stripes divisions.

In sports such as basketball and volleyball, the NCTL will play home and home games with division opponents and crossover once. Only division games will count towards the league championship.
