Brown City buys I-Pads for classrooms

The Brown City school board met Monday evening, hearing reports from building administrators including a request from junior/senior high school principal Neil Kohler to proceed with plans for the 8th grade students to travel to Washington D.C. A fundraising effort is underway to help with the costs of the trip.

Board members gave approval for the purchase of 150 new I-Pads at a cost of $50,000 that gives the high school students a one to one ratio with the technology. School officials said although the students are not allowed to take them home, every high school student is able to have use of the I-Pad throughout the school day.

In other board news, Elementary principal Sean Hagery said a group of ten fifth and sixth grade students have joined a new Lego Robotics team and named themselves the Devil Bots. Students have a challenge to solve in the coming weeks and hope to be part of an upcoming competition in December. The students will have their work on display and demonstrate how it works next month.

Superintendent Doug Muxlow told the board upgrade work on the district’s Wi-Fi connections has begun with no completion date. Muxlow updated members on the re-sealing project in the gymnasium saying the first coat had been completed and the final coat to be done yet this week.
