Brown City and North Branch head to Battle Creek
(Saginaw) – It’s on to the State semi-finals at Battle Creek’s Kellogg Arena for the Brown City Green Devils volleyball teams. In their Class C quarterfinal match Tuesday evening at Saginaw Nouvel, the Lady Green Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Shelby 3 games to 2. Brown City will play Adrian Madison Thursday afternoon at 2.
Brown city beat Shelby 22-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-12, 15-8. Leading the way to victory was senior Becki Krause with 27 kills and 3 aces, Kendal Muxlow had 12 kills, Ann Schlaud finished with 9 kills, Alexia Mason had 43 assists and 5 aces while Jasmin Bender had 10 digs. The Lady Green Devils are now 44-9-5 heading into the semi-finals.
“We’re thrilled to be going back to Battle Creek again, said Coach Jenna Welke. “That was a big win for us. We had the best outcome possible, not knowing how the girls would respond being down so far and going five games. I’m proud of how they battled back.”
Meanwhile in Class B quarterfinal competition at Clawson , the North Branch Lady Broncos continued their dominance by defeating St. Clair Shores South Lake 3 games to none. North Branch will play Buchanan in the semi-finals Thursday at 5:30.
