Eagles advance to Eight Man semi-finals

(Deckerville) – The Deckerville Eagles improved to 10-0 with a solid defensive performance in defeating New Haven Merritt 58-12 at home Friday night in a regional title contest. It was Deckerville’s third consecutive regional championship and fourth in the last five years. Wade Saldana scored three touchdowns and Austin Fritch had two to spark the Eagles offense, taking advantage of seven Mustang turnovers. Deckerville advances to the Eight Man semi-finals and will host 11-0 Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. The winner will move on to the championship game in Greenville on November 18th, facing the winner of the Powers North Central vs Pickford contest. Tri-Unity defeated Portland St. Patricks 28-10 Saturday afternoon to earn the right to challenge the Eagles this week. Deckerville heads into the semi-finals averaging 45 points a game and have allowed just four points per contest. They have recorded five shutout wins this season and have score 40 or more points in their last six games. The Eagles also advanced to the semi-finals a year ago where they fell to Batttle Creek St. Phillips. Deckerville’s undefeated record is the program’s  first since 1988 and fourth since 1950. Tri-Unity visits Deckerville with equally impressive stats, averaging 48 points per game and feature a top notch quarterback who leads the Defenders high-powered offense.
