Yale Police Chief: Beware of scams

(YALE) — Yale Police Chief Mike Redman is advising area residents of a couple of scams going on in the area. Chief Redman and the St. Clair County Emergency Management department report there are people going around the Yale area claiming to be from utility companies. Another scam is where a person will get a call or voicemail from someone claiming to be from the IRS. They say that you are being sued and that this is the final notice. Residents are reminded that if the IRS wants to contact you, they will do it by mail first. The IRS will never ask for a credit card number or Social Security number over the phone. The IRS will not threaten to arrest or sue you, and they will not ask you to use a money transfer or gift card. If anyone gets a call like this, they should call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
