(SPEAKER TWP) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a two-vehicle crash that injured five people, including two children, Tuesday night at the intersection of M-19 and Burnsline Road in Speaker Township.

Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki says the investigation showed that a Town and Country minivan, driven by a 41-year old Croswell man, was heading east on Burnsline Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of M-19. The van drove into the path of a northbound Dodge pickup driven by a 57-year old man from Peck. The pickup struck the van on the passenger side, causing it to roll over and come to rest upside down in a field.

The van contained four occupants–the 41-year old driver, a 35-year old woman, and their two children, ages three and 11 months. The woman had to be freed from the wreckage by the Speaker Township Fire Department. The 11-month old boy was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel and then flown by Flight Care to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for further treatment. The other occupants of the van were transported by ambulance to McKenzie Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The driver of the pickup was treated at the scene and transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Both children were properly secured in child seats, but it is not known if the adults were wearing their seat belts. The accident remains under investigation.
