(WORTH TWP) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single vehicle accident early Tuesday morning in Worth Township. Officers arrived at the scene of the crash on South Lakeshore Road, near Baker Road, shortly after 3:30 a.m. to discover a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 25-year-old St. Clair woman, failed to stop at barricades where bridge construction was underway at Mill Creek. Investigation revealed that the vehicle crashed through the barricades, went airborn and struck an excavator parked at the bottom of the excavation site. The driver of the vehicle was found lying under a crane that was parked at the top of the construction site. Her name is being withheld pending charges. She was transported to Port Huron McLaren Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation. Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Lexington Fire and Rescue, Croswell EMS, and the Croswell Police Department.
