Nothing flat about this: Beer sales profitable for fair

MONROE, Mich. (AP) – A county fair in southeastern Michigan is giving a blue ribbon to the beer booth. The Monroe County fair collected nearly $23,000 in revenue while selling beer for the first time at the seven-day event. After accounting for $8,500 in expenses, the fair will take a cut of the rest and also share profits with a dozen nonprofit groups. The Monroe News says $1,400 will be set aside as a college scholarship for a high school senior who wants to study agriculture. Jerry Blanchette, who supervised beer sales at the fair, says “that’s pretty good for the first year.” The fair board discussed results at a meeting last week. No decision has been made about beer sales at the 2017 fair.
