Man who fled with 5-year-old son charged in wife’s slaying

(PORT HURON) — A 39-year-old Port Huron man has been charged in the slaying of his wife inside their home. Port Huron police say Douglas Ball was arraigned Tuesday on murder and torture charges. Ball was arrested Sunday in Oakland County’s Orion Township after an Amber Alert was issued for the couple’s 5-year-old son. The boy was reported missing after the body of 30-year-old Lydia Rose Ball was found Saturday by her parents inside the home in the 1200 block of Rawlings Street. The boy was found safe with Douglas Ball in a mobile home following a police manhunt for Ball. He is jailed without bond. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for September 6 at 9 a.m. in St. Clair County District Court.
