(YALE) — The mayor of a small Michigan town suspended the police chief for five days for failing to wear a bulletproof vest. Yale Police Chief Michael Redman says he wears the vest when he believes it’s “prudent.” But Mayor Richard Busch says that’s not good enough. He says it’s a safety issue. Reports say that many residents that attended the city council meeting supported the chief Monday. Former Mayor Jim Cronin says the suspension was a “bullying exercise.” Redman says he’s never been disciplined during decades of police work. He requested a hearing with the council on the suspension, which will take place on Monday, August 29 at 7 p.m.
