Monasterio’s single leads South Bend to 8-2 win over West Michigan

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Andruw Monasterio hit a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, leading the South Bend Cubs to an 8-2 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Monday. The single by Monasterio, part of a three-run inning, gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead before Sam Tidaback hit a two-run double later in the inning. The Cubs later added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth. In the seventh, Eddy Martinez scored on a stolen base, while P.J. Higgins hit an RBI single in the eighth. Ryan Kellogg (8-7) got the win in relief while West Michigan starter Eudis Idrogo (4-5) took the loss in the Midwest League game.
