Juvenile steals gun from vehicle, shoots at homeowner during scuffle

(WALES TOWNSHIP) — A Riley Township teenager is in police custody while a Wales Township girl remains jailed after an early morning incident involving a gun. St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says the 15-year old boy and his 17-year old girlfriend went into unlocked vehicles parked in the 1000 block of Cove Road in Wales Township early Tuesday morning. The couple was stealing items from the cars when they located a 9mm handgun, which was taken by the boy. At around 5:40 a.m. a homeowner and his neighbor heard noises outside and confronted the pair. As a scuffle ensued, the 15-year old fired at least one shot at the homeowner, who was not injured. The two suspects fled the scene as the homeowner got the license plate number from the vehicle they were driving. Deputies and Troopers from the Michigan State Police went to the 15-year old boy’s home on Belle River Road in Riley Township where the two teens were taken into custody. The boy was lodged in the Macomb County Juvenile Center, while the 17 year old girl is jailed in St. Clair County.
