Porcupine Mountains park boat site reopening after overhaul

ONTONAGON, Mich. (AP) – A boating access site at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is reopening in time for the Fourth of July weekend. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the parking lot and ramp at the Union Bay site will be open starting Friday. Union Bay is a popular destination for boaters, anglers and campers. The boating access site has been closed since October for construction. The ramp was widened and dredging of rocks near the launch has improved access. The $569,000 project was funded with $260,000 from the 2013 Emergency Dredging Program and $309,000 in Waterways Capital Outlay money.
