(AREA) — Governor Rick Snyder has signed a legislative package clarifying the definition of a veteran, including a bill introduced by State Representative Gary Howell of North Branch. The 21-bill package standardizes the definition of a veteran, ensuring that the men and women who served our nation in uniform, may access the benefits they have earned, according to Howell. The updated wording in House Bill 5549 defines a veteran as “an individual who served in the United States armed forces, including the reserve components, and was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.” This was Representative Howell’s first bill signed into law. He serves the 82nd House District, which covers Lapeer County.
