(AREA) — Legislators recently recognized McDonald’s for use of Michigan apples. State Representatives Dan Lauwers of Brockway Township and Jon Bumstead of Newaygo presented the special tributes to owner-operator Matthew Schulz, and Earl Peterson of Peterson Farms in Shelby. Schulz is the brother of Markus Schulz, McDonald’s owner-operator in the St. Clair County area. The recognition marked the two-billionth apple packet sold by McDonald’s Restaurants nationwide. The company purchases more than $164 million in agricultural products from Michigan, with the largest purchases being apples. Some of those apples come from Peterson Farms.
