Three Cros-Lex administrators resign from district

(CROSWELL-LEXINGTON) — The Cros-Lex School Board Tuesday night accepted the resignation of three of the district’s principals, following a financial penalty from the Michigan Department of Education. In a press release from the district, Superintendent Julie Western says High School Principal Ryan Cayce, Middle School Principal Mark Benson, and Frostick Elementary Principal Colette Moody failed to hold the administrator certification required by state law. Western said the voluntary resignations followed discussions over the course of several weeks with each administrator. Parents and community members voiced concern and asked questions about the resignations Tuesday night and the board declined to comment during the meeting. Superintendent Western says it’s the administrator’s responsibility to maintain their certifications and all three were on notice of the obligation. Cayce, Benson, and Moody were provided an opportunity for a hearing before the board, but instead chose to amicably resign. Published reports say the state will deduct around $107,250 in fines from $1.3 million in state aid the Cros-Lex district will receive in June.
