(AREA) — DNR Conservation Officer Ben Lasher of St. Clair County was recently honored by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources with the Lifesaving Award for helping a man with a gunshot wound. Officer Lasher responded to the call for an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound on November 15, 2015, the opening day of firearm deer season. The 30-year old victim was located deep in the woods in St. Clair County’s Casco Township. Officer Lasher and Deputy Greg Doan of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, got as close to the man as they could with a vehicle and ran the rest of the way to render aid. DNR Law Enforcement Division Chief Gary Hagler noted that Lasher’s quick action saved the man’s life. Officer Lasher has severed as a conservation officer for 20-years. He started his career in 1996 in Arenac County and has been in St. Clair County for the past 11-years.
