Investigation underway in sudden death of infant in Port Huron Township

(PORT HURON TOWNSHIP) — Detectives from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a 2 1/2 month old girl discovered early Thursday morning in Port Huron Township. Sheriff Tim Donnellon says deputies received a call about a baby not breathing in the 4100 block of Dove Road shortly after 3:00 a.m. The 33-year old father of the child told responding deputies that the baby had been to the doctor’s office on Wednesday for a checkup. The child was put to bed around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night. When the father awoke at about 3:00 a.m. to check on her, he discovered she wasn’t breathing and immediately called 9-1-1. The girl was transported to Lake Huron Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. No cause or manner of death has been determined as detectives continue to investigate. Foul play is not suspected at this time. An autopsy is expected to be carried out this weekend by the St. Clair County Medical Examiner’s Office.
