(LAPEER COUNTY) — Marathon Township residents in Lapeer County will start to see bicycle patrols. Sheriff Ron Kalanquin says the bicycle patrol is another step in improving community policing. Deputy Hinsberger took the specialized training for bicycle patrol to access areas that are not accessible with a patrol car. During the summer months, the bike patrol will be a valuable tool in keeping people safe along trails throughout Marathon Township. Deputy Hinsberger will also be looking for illegal drug use, drinking on the trails, and dogs off leashes. The bicycle and training were funded by a grant from the Lapeer County Community Foundation. The addition to public safety was a collaboration between Marathon Township, the villages of Columbiaville and Otter Lake, Southern Links Trailway, Lapeer County Community Foundation and the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department.
